Scotland is very famous for many things but one of the things that stand out for visitors is the country’s delicacies that are known the world over. Arranging a visit to Scotland must include a sampling of the foods and drinks that have made Scotland a culinary delight to visit. To enjoy some of the best food and drink on offer however accommodation in Scotland is a crucial decision when planning your holiday. Hotels may allow a small sampling of the famous dishes that Scotland has to offer, but the best way to enjoy all that the country has to offer is to book a holiday cottage.
Scotland’s holiday cottages provide the entire home from home comforts and are perfect to enjoy some of the best food and drink from the area. Sitting back in a comfortable lounge, sipping a tot of locally distilled whisky, Scotland’s most famous tipple, paints a very different picture to sitting in a cramped hotel room with a wee dram. Some Scottish holiday cottages are complete with a garden and there is nothing quite like sitting out in a garden during the summer eating al fresco. So whether locally distilled whisky is providing that winter warmer by the fire in a beautiful cottage or is just to be enjoyed in the late summer evening – the cottage setting will be perfect for making those treasured holiday memories.
Scottish Whisky is extremely well known all over the world, with one of the biggest markets being China. Local distilleries are dotted all over the country and many are open to visitors, allowing them to find out about the amazing process of producing the amber liquid. Look for some of the smaller distilleries for the ultimate experience, they also allow visitors to purchase some of their finest. There are always bottles that could break the bank however, with some exclusive Scottish whiskies being priced at over a thousand pounds – but of course these are usually for show with the majority of whisky being reasonably priced for visitors.
Any holiday in Scotland would not be complete without sampling the famous Haggis – in restaurants and hotels this can be extremely overpriced, better to purchase from a local supplier and cook yourself. A holiday cottage kitchen will be filled with the wonderful aroma and again the memories this will create will last a life time. What better way to experience the most famous of Scottish food, than to cook and enjoy in a relaxed atmosphere – plus purchasing the Haggis is part of the fun. Haggis is served in a variety of ways but is delicious with a whisky sauce – a whisky sauce made from your bottle purchased from the local distillery – what could be better.
Once you have booked your Scottish holiday cottage it will be great fun to plan a traditional Scottish meal for the last night of your holiday. Try purchasing all the ingredients during the period of your stay and plan to devour the traditional Scottish meal on your final night – it will be great fun and family, friends and loved ones will be thrilled. A holiday treat like this can only come to fruition when staying in a luxurious holiday cottage in Scotland – the experience is far more fun than a cramped hotel experience.
